Our client lived through the last three decades of the previous century in New York, where he was immersed in the pop art scene. He therefore asked us to create a unique timepiece and granted us permission to share with you the project’s starting point: particularly the dialogue between two contemporary artists shaped by the same cultural environment, much as we previously did with Wassily Kandinsky and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is a major figure of the 1980s New York art scene. Emerging from graffiti, he established a raw and instinctive style, blending words, symbols, and fragmented figures. His work explores power, identity, and social tensions with an avant-garde, underground energy. A collaborator of Andy Warhol, he remains an essential icon of contemporary art.

Bret Easton Ellis is the author of the cult novel American Psycho, published in 1991. Through a cold and incisive writing style, he delivers a fierce satire of capitalism and the superficiality of the 1980s. His work highlights the existential emptiness and obsession with appearances that defined New York’s financial world at the time.
